How we use cookies on our site
Last updated: 8 September 2026
This policy explains how StrayKind (formerly Animal Care Trust), UK registered charity No. 1163828, uses cookies and similar technologies on our website straykind.org.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site work properly, remember your preferences, and provide information to the site owner about how visitors use the site.
How we use cookies
We use cookies for the following purposes:
These are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off. They include:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress session cookies | Keep you logged in if you have an account | Session |
| GDPR/cookie consent | Remember your cookie preferences | 1 year |
These are set by Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and help us measure whether our advertising reaches people who go on to support our work. They are only set if you agree to them. They stay switched off until you choose “Accept all”, or switch on advertising cookies under “Customise”, in the cookie banner.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_fbp | Meta | Identifies your browser so we can measure the results of our adverts | 3 months |
_fbc | Meta | Records that you arrived from one of our adverts, so that a donation can be attributed to it | 3 months |
fbcValue | StrayKind | Passes the advert reference above into our donation form | Session |
Where you have agreed, the Meta Pixel reports to Meta when you view a page on our site and when you complete a donation, including the amount. It does not send Meta your name, postal address or payment card details.
We do not currently use website analytics such as Google Analytics. If we introduce it, we will update this policy and add it to the cookie banner before it is switched on.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the cookie settings on our site, or by clearing cookies in your browser.
When you make a donation, our payment providers may set cookies:
Stripe Used to process card payments securely and prevent fraud.
PayPal Used when you choose to pay via PayPal.
These cookies are necessary to complete your donation and are set by the payment provider, not by us.
Meta Pixel (Facebook) In addition to analytics, this helps us show relevant content to people who have visited our site when they use Facebook or Instagram. You can control Facebook ad preferences in your Facebook settings.
Mailchimp If you click through from one of our email newsletters, Mailchimp may set cookies to help us understand which content is most engaging.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by third-party services that appear on our pages. We do not control these cookies. The third parties include:
Please refer to these providers’ privacy policies for more information about their cookies.
