A snare doesn’t kill quickly
When an animal steps into a hidden wire snare, it tightens with every struggle. Without rescue, they face 7–10 days of agony before they lose a foot—or their life. Of the 347 dogs in our care, more than 150 have lost at least one limb to snares. Some have lost two or three.
Snares are the cruellest and most common threat we respond to—but they’re not the only one. We’re also called to dogs suffering with severe mange, cats too sick with a virus to eat, macaques maimed by those same snares, and injured wild birds and squirrels. Wherever an animal in Taiwan is suffering and out of options, we try to be the ones who show up.

Meet Wren
Reported near Zhinan Temple in the tea mountains above Taipei, Wren was surviving on badly injured front legs—both missing their feet—yet still quick enough to slip past every trap. It took our team six weeks of daily visits, trail cameras and sheer persistence to catch her, by hand, on 4th July. She’s in hospital now: both wounds are inflamed but responding to treatment, so we’re hopeful of avoiding further amputation. Ahead lies the long, costly part—weeks of daily dressings, antibiotics and monitoring. That slow stretch after the rescue is exactly where your support goes furthest.
